What is Local Outreach?

Local Outreach gives students the opportunity to volunteer in the community. Our ministries meet weekly and focus on building relationships with those we serve. We would love to have you get involved! And don’t worry, we’ll even give you a ride.

Local Ministries

Canyon Kids

Children in our neighborhood are invited to Lynnhaven Community Church for Bible stories, games, and crafts. Volunteers can mentor and form spiritual relationships with kids from the community. Saturdays @ The Outreach Hub (Bldg 26) – 9:30 am – Noon

Changing Lives Center

Volunteers build relationships with kids through crafts, activities, and games. Thursday @ Local Outreach Volunteer Hub (Bldg 53) 5 – 7 pm

Colter Commons

Colter Commons aims to create an environment where students build relationships, create events, and connect with senior residents living in the Colter Commons apartment complex. Tuesday @ Local Outreach Volunteer Hub (Bldg 53) 5:30 – 7:30 pm

Park Ministry

Students go to a local park where they play games and share Bible stories with kids ranging from 1st-9th grade. Monday & Thursday @ Local Outreach Volunteer Hub (Bldg 53) 3:50 – 6:00 pm

Rehoboth

Students build relationships with kids and families at Rehoboth Apartment through sports, activities, and lessons. Monday & Wednesday @ Local Outreach Volunteer Hub (Bldg 53) 5:30 – 7:15 pm

Homeless Ministry

Students partner with St. Vincent de Paul to serve breakfast and hear the stories of various men and women experiencing homelessness. Mondays, Tuesdays, & Wednesdays @ Student Union – 5:30 – 8:45 am

Unified Special Needs Ministry

Students care for people with exceptionalities through relationship building, discipleship, and fun events. Thursdays @ Local Outreach Volunteer Hub (Bldg 53) – 5:30 – 7:15 pm

Ohanafied Special Needs Ministry

This ministry partners with Ohana foster care to run weekly events, grow in faith, and build community for members in foster care with exceptionalities. Wednesday @ The Outreach Hub – 5:15 – 7:30 pm

High School Soccer Ministry

Students build relationships with local high school students through food, soccer training, and scrimmages on campus. Tuesday @ Fields on campus 5 – 7 pm

Royal Palms Soccer Ministry

Students build relationships with K-6th graders through soccer training and scrimmages at Royal Palms Baptist Church. Wednesday @ Local Outreach Volunteer Hub (Bldg 53) – 3:30 – 5:15 pm

Learning Lounge Soccer Ministry

Students build relationships with K-6th graders through soccer training and scrimmages at the Learning Lounge on 27th Avenue. Thursday @ Diamondback Apartment – 5:45 – 7:15 pm

Learning Lounge Dance Ministry

Students build relationships with K-6th graders through dance at the Learning Lounge on 27th Avenue. Mondays @ Diamondback Apartment – 5:45 – 7:15 pm

Skate Ministry

Students go to Desert West Sports Complex to build relationships, minister to local skateboarders, and serve food. Wednesdays @ GCU Skate Slab – 7 – 9:30 pm

Neighborhood Ministries

Neighborhood Ministries exists to serve inner city children and youth through worship, games, and community. Mondays @ Local Outreach Volunteer Hub (Bldg 53) – 5:30 – 8:30 pm

Ohana Teens

Volunteers build intentional relationships with the teens living in foster care group homes. Monday @ The Outreach Hub (Bldg 26) – 4:30 – 7:30 pm

Hope Wing

Volunteers build intentional relationships with women and men who are survivors of human trafficking. Volunteers participate in fun weekly activities with the residents at the Phoenix Dream Center. Interview Only – Tuesday – 4:45 – 6:15 pm

Along Side (Prison Transition) Ministry

Volunteers work with men and women (separated by gender) who have recently transitioned out of prison and are involved in a two-year discipleship transition program. Interview Only – Wednesday – 5:45 – 8 pm

Lopes Go Local – Habitat for Humanity

Lopes Go Local is a partnership with Habitat for Humanity which gives students the opportunity to bless others in the community through discounted home repairs, painting projects, and landscaping.
